Two rules of thumb from years of watching people guess wrong. First, people underestimate — waste always looks smaller spread around the yard than it does stacked in a bin, and hiring a second bin costs more than sizing up by one in the first place. Second, heavy waste flips the logic: for concrete, brick, tiles and soil you deliberately go smaller, because a big bin full of concrete is too heavy to lift. - Green waste — branches, palm fronds, lawn clippings, garden overgrowth and storm debris.
- Construction and demolition waste — timber, gyprock, tiles, metal, old cabinetry from renos and trade jobs.
- Concrete, brick and soil — heavy waste with its own weight rules and bin sizes.
