What Counts as General Waste?
General waste (sometimes called mixed household waste) covers the light, non-hazardous contents of a home:
- Furniture — couches, mattress bases, wardrobes, tables, bed frames, outdoor settings faded by the Gladstone sun
- Clothing, linen, shoes, bags, toys and books
- Carpet, rugs and underlay
- Small appliances and general e-waste like kettles, fans and old printers (large whitegoods and TVs — check first, as some need separate recycling)
- Kitchenware, ornaments, tools, sporting gear and general shed contents
- Cardboard, packaging and paper
- Small amounts of timber or garden waste mixed through a household load
The definition matters because general waste is priced as a light category. Slip heavy material in — concrete, brick, tiles, soil — and the load can exceed the bin's weight allowance and be reclassified at a higher rate. If your clean-out includes rubble, book a separate small heavy waste bin; it works out cheaper than a mixed surcharge.

The Jobs General Waste Bins Are Made For
Moving house. The single most common booking. Gladstone's rental turnover is relentless — industry contracts end, crews move on, families upsize — and every move surfaces a pile of stuff not worth taking. A 4m³ or 6m³ bin in the driveway for the final week means the sorting happens once, straight into the bin, instead of a dozen agonised trips.
Deceased estates and downsizing. Clearing a parent's home or moving into something smaller means parting with decades of belongings on a tight timeline. A 6m³ or larger bin on site lets the family sort at their own pace — keep, donate, bin — without the pressure of a skip that's too small or trip after trip out to Benaraby.
End-of-lease and bond cleans. Property managers want the place empty. A bin on site while you clean makes "empty" achievable in a weekend, whether it's a unit in Gladstone Central or a four-bedder in Kirkwood.
Decluttering and garage clean-outs. The classic "we can park the car in there again" project. A 2m³ or 3m³ mini skip handles one packed garage bay; a double garage that hasn't seen a car since 2019 is 4m³ territory.

Count box-trailer loads (1 trailer load ≈ 1m³) and add a buffer:

Where Your Household Waste Ends Up
Loads are taken to licensed facilities in the region — primarily Benaraby Regional Landfill and local transfer stations — where salvageable material like scrap metal and clean cardboard is diverted for recycling where practical, and the rest is landfilled under Gladstone Regional Council's waste management controls. It's the same place your DIY tip run would end — minus the three hours of driving and queueing.
